Bulgarian writer Angel Igov speacial guest at European Literature Night 2018 in Varna

The special guest of European Literature Night 2018 in Varna is ANGEL IGOV, established writer, translator, literary critic, university tutor and public figure. The author will read from his latest novel, ‘Fine Dust Particles’ (2017), at Varna Regional Library on 9 May between 18 and 22 h. On the following day, 10 May, Igov will take part in a literary talk hosted by Varna-based young poet Krassimir Neykov and moderated by poet and journalist Elitsa Videnova. The talk will be followed by a discussion with Angel Igov and moderator journalist Iva Georgieva on the culture of non-participation and the possibility of change part of the current social dynamics in Bulgaria. Igov will visit local schools to discuss topics of writing, academia, translation, literary criticism and teaching with Bulgarian students, part of Amorpha’s established practice of school visits and talks with guests in European Literature Night and other initiatives by the organisation.

PUBLIC READING of selected excerpts texts at all literary venues starting every 30 min. A selected text representing a European national literature is read in translation and in its original language again every half an hour at its assigned literary space.

European Literature Night is an international initiative aimed at promoting contemporary European authors. This year marks the seventh edition in which Bulgaria will be joining for many countries around the world for a night of public reading. The event is organised by the Euuropean Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) and embassies in Bulgaria. Partners and local organisers are Varna Municipality and Amorpha Youth Foundation.

On 9 May 2018 between 18:00 and 22:00 h famous people will read publicly European literature in translation in twelve Bulgarian cities including Varna, Burgas, Dobrich, Gabrovo, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Plovdiv, Russe, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Shumen and Veliko Tarnovo. The edition in Varna traditionally presents text in their original language as well as in translation and invites Bulgarian authors to join the event, present their work and interact with the audience in several formats.
