This event introduces the first Portuguese session in the Breakwater Talks series as well as the newly establishe Portuguese-speaking community of Varna.

About the hosts:
Pedro Barboza / Brasil
Born in Rio de Janeiro and settled in the small town of Ouro Preto in the state of Minas Gerais, designated a World Heritage Site by its architecture and historical importance. Graduated in industrial engineering from Federal University of Ouro Preto, was Erasmus student in Porto University, Portugal. The grandson of a German, son of a Portuguese and Brazilian and father of a Bulgarian, mixing of people has been a family tradition for many generations and the interest towards their similarities and differences, history and language, culture and curiosities is in their blood. Living in Varna for 3 years now, with projects with the Brazilian and Portuguese communities, he is willing to help sharing his own culture and language to whoever is interested in exchange with everything he has been learning all these years abroad.

César Pimentel / Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil, 1982
César Pimentel is a multidisciplinary artist working both with traditional and new media. He was born in 1982 in Brazil, in the city of Vitoria – the capital of the Espírito Santo state – a place of deep rooted cultural traditions, whose southern spirit became part of César’s way of artistic expression. A graduated advertising designer, he has also specialized in photography, digital painting, sketching. His professional and artistic activities stretch across various fields – art director in advertising agencies, photographer, author of the book “The Boys of Espírito Santo: The New Identity of Capixaba”. His works have been exhibited in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Vitoria, Mexico City, Porto, Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna. He is known to the Bulgarian public through his 2009 photographic exhibition “Bulgaria That My Eyes Want to See”, presented in Sofia. He has received invitations to participate in festivals like “Videoholica” (Varna), “Contempo” (Varna), “Forest Resonance” (Plovdiv). He is the author of the project “Romaram”, that combines photography, music, poetry, and performance.

We are aiming to create healthy discussion forums, exchange opinions, involve foreign diaspora, help improve fluency in a range of key languages, especially by young people. We have selected as venues the local spots which these languages and their cultures inhabit.

Pedro Barboza / Brasil
Nascido no Rio de Janeiro e radicado na pequena cidade de Ouro Preto, no estado de Minas Gerais, designada Patrimônio da Humanidade pela Unesco por sua arquitetura e importância histórica. Graduado em engenharia industrial pela Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, foi estudante de Erasmus na Universidade do Porto, em Portugal. Neto de uma alemã, filho de um português e de uma brasileira e pai de um búlgaro, a mistura de diferentes etnias tem sido uma tradição familiar por muitas gerações e o interesse entre suas semelhanças e diferenças, história e língua, cultura e curiosidades está em seu sangue. Vivendo em Varna há 3 anos, com projetos com as comunidades brasileira e portuguesa, ele está disposto a ajudar a promover sua própria cultura e língua para quem está interessado em troca de tudo o que tem aprendido todos estes anos no exterior.

César Pimentel / Vitória, ES, Brasil, 1982.
Artista Visual. Trabalhou como Diretor de Arte em agências de publicidade e propaganda, como fotógrafo autônomo para Revista do Brasil e Revista Urbano e na renomada agência de imagem Mosaico Imagem. Atualmente reside na Bulgária.
Trabalha com a fotografia de uma forma diferente: cria histórias, roteiriza e depois fotografa. “Seu trabalho é fortemente influenciado pela poesia e cultura brasileira.”
Já expôs em cidades como: Rio de Janeiro, Vitória, Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Cidade do México, Porto-PT. É autor e fotógrafo do livro Meninos espírito-santenses: a nova identidade capixaba. Foi finalista do Concurso Nacional de fotografia búlgara com o título “Sentidos Para O Mar” no ano de 2010. Em 2013, uniu-se ao Grupo Célula de Gravura.
Atualmente colabora com os projetos Amorpha, Fusāo de Sentidos, Raiz Forte, Web TV Eu Modo Mundo e UVT. É diretor do projeto Romaram, um projeto multimídia que reune poesia, fotografia, música, vídeo.
