Hristo Rusev is a young Bulgarian photojournalist. Currently at the age of 23, he already has his photographs acknowledged and published by some of the world’s most prestigious media like The New York Times, The Guardian, The Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, BBC, CNN, Associated Press, National Geographic Magazine, New York Magazine, ELLE Magazine and others.
In the last 3 consecutive years he was awarded the Best Bulgarian Young Photojournalist prize by BG PRESS PHOTO Awards, as well as the first prize in the International Photojournalism category. Since January 2018 he is a member of the Association of European Journalists in Bulgaria.
His passion in photography began with taking photos of the picturesque Bulgarian mountains. However, soon he was contacted by a local newspaper and started work as a photojournalist. At that time Rusev was still a teenager and had to balance between work and school. Later, he participated in many international master classes like the course on Documentary and Street photojournalism by the legendary Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt during the World photography awards of Sony in London in 2015.
Hristo Rusev is in constant search of the next story. They range from gazing at people’s everyday life to being at the epicenter of the breaking news. He has covered political events, protests and war.
“I was 14 years old when I first took up the camera and I have not put it down ever since. 9 years later photography has become more than a passion to me – it is part of me and the way I see life.”
