Parallel events: 11-14 May. See full programme below.
In 2015 European Literature Night will take place for the ninth time in many European cities one of which is Varna. The events stages public readings at unusual places. The project presents contemporary European literature, translated into local languages. During one evening, actors and other famous persons read excerpts from recent European works of fiction. Currently, 75 cities from 13 countries are taking part in the initiative. In Varna, every year the organisers invite guest authors outside the selection to read and interact with the local reading audience. Another distinct feature of the local event consists reading the excerpts in translation as well the original language of the literary work. The idea is for the audience to hear the authentic voice of the text as well as to experience a different cultural reality through language and generate knowledge and respect towards otherness. Moreover, the organisers continue to support young people in the improvement and recognition of their skills not only by inviting young authors but also by entrusting the texts to young readers, the actors at theatre troupe Studio Theatre directed by famous Bulgarian actor and theatre director Stoyan Radev.
