For the second year, Varna marks the Day of European Authors with meetings on literary topics. This year Amorpha Youth Foundation will once again hold the meetings in Varna schools to promote the initiative of the European Commission highlighting the power of literature to reveal the richness of European cultures.

On March 25, 2024, ‘A Room of One’s Own’ writers’ club with the foundation will visit students in school years 10 to 12 at “Konstantin Preslavski” Secondary School for Humanities and Arts and “Dimcho Debelyanov” Secondary School in Varna. Works by the Bulgarian writers Alexander Hristov and Marian Zhelev and the Danish writer and screenwriter Morten Pepe will be presented. The young members of the writer’s club will read excerpts from works and discuss with the students the shared theme of freedom: inner freedom, freedom of the individual in the community and freedom in the world.

The presented writers and works are part of the past edition of the European Literature Night, introducing to European and national audiences contemporary European literature. European Literature Night in Varna is organised by Amorpha Foundation in partnership with the Municipality of Varna, Directorate of Culture and Spiritual Development.

Young writers from ‘A Room of One’s Own’ writers’ club, aged 13 to 21  yeras, will challenge their peers to dig through the literary layers in search of ideas and experiences that help them understand more about themselves and the world around them.

With the series of meetings, the foundation aims to contribute to the promotion of the culture of reading European literature in schools, with school teachers increasingly actively taking up a variety of literary activities to celebrate the Day with their students.

The Day of European Authors inspires young people to explore the wealth of European literature and promotes linguistic diversity. The day has been celebrated since 2023 on the last Monday of March at the idea of the Bulgarian European Commissioner responsible for innovation, scientific research, culture, education and youth.
