The City of Varna will be joining the annual international initiative European Literature Night promoting new European literature in translation. This year’s event in Bulgaria is organised in 18 cities, towns and villages where citizens can hear excerpts from new book titles presented by public personalities.
The cultural diplomacy initiative which is enjoying its eleventh edition dedicated to introducing new European literature through public literary readings in unusual urban or rural spaces, where famous personalities deliver excerpts from selected European books every thirty minutes between 18:00 and 21:30 h
In 2021 the event will take place on 7 September with a simultaneous literary route including the capital Sofia as well as the cities and towns of Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Dobrich, Lovech, Motana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Plovdiv, Ruse, Silistra, Stara Zagora, Shumen, and the village of Chavdar.
The national event is organised by: the Embassy of Austria, the Embassy of Belgium, Goethe Institut, the Embassy of Denmark, the European Commission, the Embassy of Ireland, The Cervantes Institute, The Italian Cultaral Institute, the British Council, the Polish Institute, Institute Camões, the Embassy of Romania, the Cultural and Information Centre of North Macedonia, the Embassy of Slovenia, the Embassy of Ukraine, Institute List, the Czech Institute, the Embassy of Switzerland, Sofia Municipality and Detski Knigi Foundation.
In Varna, European Literature Night is organised by Varna Municipality and Amorpha Youth Foundation. The event preparation will be supported by young trainees in cultural management from Amorpha Academy for Young Creators of Cultural Life, Literature Module, funded by the Bulgarian Culture Fund.
