Ville Multiculturelle :: Multicultural City :: EFIV :: 2016/2017

In October 2016 we launched the second edition of our joint initiative with the International French School, EFIV Ecole Française Internationale de Varna. Our diversely faceted idea & event series Ville Multiculturelle :: Multicultural City is dedicated to young people and their cultures coexisting in the local community and explored by the students in their multicultural educational setting. During the new 2016/2017 school year the project is an official part of the school curriculum as an interdisciplinary subject. This is a huge success for everyone involved in this successful grassroots practice ensuing from our community work. The initiative has grown by experience to recognition based on merit. Hence, this year we have planned together 8 cultural events happening once a month. Our coordination enjoys the key role and contribution of our friend EFIV teacher Mme Victoria Moneva. A special place in this adventure and its cooking segment holds the Multi Kulti Kitchen model by our partners Multi Kulti Collective in Sofia. Poster design by Katrin Eftimova.

Ville Multiculturelle :: Italia :: Multicultural City :: Italy

On 16 March 2016 at the International French School in Varna – Bulgaria we launched our Multicultural City initiative with an event dedicated to the cultural exploration of Italy. The new joint project by Amorpha and EFIV Ecole Française Internationale de Varna is dedicated to young people and their cultures coexisting in the local community and explored by the students of this multicultural school.

A special role in this adventure holds the MultiKulti Kitchen model by our partners Multi Kulti Collective in Sofia. The first step is our encounter with Italy with our friends Andrea, Vicky and Dimitrina and together with our partners at Favola Italian Food Shop. Photos by Alexander Lazarov and Venelin Mitev.

Ville Multiculturelle :: España & Honduras :: Multicultural City :: Spain & Honduras

On 11 April we had our exciting second meeting with the young people of EFIV Ecole Française Internationale de Varna. Street artist Aleksi Ivanov, Amorpha team member, presented a selection of Spanish graffiti and street artists including Aryz, Escif, GR170, Malakkai, OKUDART, El Pez, and Spy. Then, on 18 April, we embarked on the second part of our new multicultural adventure through Spain and Honduras with our young friends from the school together with new partners Mapache Cafe & Bakery and the Erasmus Student Network office in Varna.
We discussed and learned new things about the two cultures, cooked and tasted traditional dishes, sang Spanish songs and moved to the sound of famous Honduran tunes and theatrical dance, and at the end discovered how to invest these new rich sensations and knowledge into our Spanish-influenced street art characters. Our guests, the people who joined us to make this cultural exploration happen: Jose Liza Nicolás, Karolina Oliva Meza, Cristina Pereiro Paz, Krzysztof Grzesik, Joel Cruz Cuadras, Juan Funes and Aleksi Ivanov. On 18 May we visited our young friends from EFIV Ecole Française Internationale de Varna, who surprised us with specially rehearsed Indian dance. The meeting is part of our common project Multicultural City. The topic this month is India and we had the pleasure to meet Jaya Lalwani, who showed us how to prepare traditional Indian meals with the help of Nikoleta. Jaya is part of ESN UE-Varna and she presented to us inspirational contemporary heroes that have influenced the world we all live in.

On 20 May our friend Steve Satya presented to us the spiritual side of India. He told us more about the link between body and mind and introduced us to yoga practice. Satya Steve is a yoga teacher, the founder of Meditation and Yoga Bulgaria and organiser of the colourful annual festivity India Day in Varna. Previously, Satya Steve was our host at Yoga Breakfast, our public event dedicated to Indian culture which took place in December 2015. Photos by Aleksi Ivanov.

Ville Multiculturelle :: Brasil :: Multicultural City :: Brazil

On 14 June we had our fourth and final multicultural adventure with our young friends from the French International School in Varna together with our friends and guests Luanda Cristiane Dias Ivanova and César Pimentel from Brazil. At the event we spoke Bulgarian, French, English and Portuguese. We cooked together and tasted the traditional Paçoca and Moqueca Capixaba preceded by fresh avocado sandwiches and lime juice.

Luanda lead us gently into the fine moves of the forró and frevo dance while César told us the story of the moqueca recipe of his region and the story of Moqueca Brasil, the Brazilian contemporary art festival we organised together few years ago. Well-deserved credit to EFIV teacher Victoria Moneva and her colleagues who made the four cultural encounters with the school possible and most enjoyable.
